Special thanks to the local historian at Chester, New York for her work in compiling family and local records of this Bowyer-Mundy family and sending me copies that round out the history of these families in New York. I also want to acknowledge with gratitude a DNA cousin (Kareena2b) in England for her diligent research and generous sharing.

Marriage*
14 February 1846; Somerset, England; Principal=SarahMundy
Immigration*
1848; Wife and mother-in-law traveled with him (apparently from Ireland).1,3,4
Residence*
1849; Chestertown, Warren, New York, United States; A Google book (see footnote #5) has several pages devoted to the architecture in the village and features residences and business owned by the Remington and Vetter families, especially. An introduction to the village describes its origins as a tanning center, and this explains its choice as a home for the Bowyer and Mundy families, since William Mundy's sister was Sarah Mundy Bowyer. William established his tanning factory and butcher business there.5

Among the Bowyer-Mundy papers at Chester, NY is a letter from a local historian to a researcher that provides some info about the Mundy family. The last sentence, referring to Sarah Mundy Bowyer's husband Samuel Bowyer, Jr., states: "Mr. Bowyer belonged to a royal family." This would support the statement found in an alternate copy of his great grandfather Stephen's will that suggested he expected to inherit an earldom from his sister Hannah. On the other hand, I wonder if the royal line might be in his wife's line or his mother's.11
